Surya P. Irakam attended medical school at Sir Venkateswara Medical College in India. He completed his residency in internal medicine in New York at Interfaith Medical Center, and his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Irakam also received specialized gastrointestinal training in advanced, state-of-the-art biliary and pancreatic endoscopy at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Dr. Irakam has expertise in Endoscopic Ultrasound with fine needle aspiration, Colonic stenting, Esophageal stenting, Drainage of Pancreatic pseudocysts, Transesophageal biopsies of lung lesions, argon plasma coagulation, infrared photocoagulation and various other procedures. Dr.Irakam has written many abstracts and publications during his residency and fellowship. He has received awards for excellence in academics both during residency and fellowship training. Dr. Irakam is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He serves on cancer committee at Robert Wood Johnson @ Somerset. He has served two terms as Chief of Gastroenterology at Robert Wood Johnson @ Somerset. Dr. Irakam has the honor of recently being appointed Chief of Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson @ Somerset. He also serves as President of Gastromed Healthcare, PA.
